After he was shut down in September in the midst of a promising rookie season, Cleveland Guardians right-hander Nic Enright is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery, MLB.com reported Wednesday.
Enright, 28, went on the injured list Sept. 9 with right elbow/forearm inflammation. The injury came after he made his major league debut May 25 and went 2-1 with a 2.03 ERA in 27 relief appearances.
Enright made 23 minor league appearances in 2023, which was the same year he was treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
The Guardians also revealed that designated hitter David Fry was set to undergo surgery for a fractured nose and a deviated septum. Fry, 29, was hit in the face by a pitch from the Detroit Tigers’ Tarik Skubal on Sept. 23. The club initially hoped Fry would be able to avoid surgery.
