Mexico City will feature the San Francisco 49ers in one of the nine NFL International Series games scheduled to be played during the 2026 regular season.
The league confirmed the 49ers — but not a game date or opponent — were ticketed as the featured attraction in Mexico. The 2026 schedule also sends San Francisco to Australia in a division game against the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne.
San Francisco won its last game in Mexico City over the Arizona Cardinals in 2022 and also played there in 2005.
The full NFL schedule for the 2026 season is expected to be released in May, but the 49ers already know their travel schedule calls for 38,000 air miles, a league record according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The 49ers and Rams reportedly are playing the league’s first game in Australia in Week 1 of the regular season — Wednesday, Sept. 9 or Thursday, Sept. 10. The 49ers would play only eight true home games with one home game counting for their date in Mexico City.
Their known “home” game opponents who potentially could play the 49ers in Mexico City are the Eagles, Cardinals, Seahawks, Commanders, Vikings, Raiders, Broncos and Dolphins. San Francisco has a home game against the Rams, but the NFL is not likely to pair those teams for two international games this season.
