Bryce Harper launched two mammoth home runs and Trea Turner drove in five runs to highlight the Philadelphia Phillies’ 12-7 home victory over the Seattle Mariners on Monday.
Turner finished with four hits while Harper and J.T. Realmuto had three hits apiece for Philadelphia, which mounted a 21-hit attack in support of Ranger Suarez (9-6). The left-hander struck out 10 over 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs and four hits without a walk as the Phillies earned their third win in four games.
Logan Gilbert (3-5) dug the visitors into a hole by allowing six runs in the second inning. Mitch Garver and Cole Young hit seventh-inning home runs for Seattle, which has lost five of its past six games.
Philadelphia’s offensive eruption began in the second inning, when the first five batters reached against Gilbert. Max Kepler’s RBI single made it 1-0 before Bryson Stott delivered an RBI double and Turner blasted a three-run homer.
Realmuto put an exclamation point on the inning with a two-out homer as the lead ballooned to 6-0.
In the sixth inning, Harper hit a 440-foot home run off Casey Legumina to push the cushion to 7-0.
Garver homered against Suarez in the seventh and Young belted a three-run shot off Jordan Romano later in the frame as the Mariners inched within 7-4.
However, the hosts responded with another crooked number against Legumina in the bottom of the seventh. Turner supplied an RBI double and scored on a hit by Kyle Schwarber, setting the stage for Harper’s 448-foot blast — his 21st of the season — that made it 11-4.
Turner capped his big night with an RBI single in the eighth. With 14 hits in the past five games, the veteran shortstop has raised his batting average from .281 to .295.
Seattle scored three times in the ninth against Nolan Hoffman, who was making his major league debut. Young had a run-scoring groundout in the frame, giving him four RBIs on the night.
Gilbert yielded six runs on nine hits and no walks in two innings. He struck out one.
